Independent Schools Council (ISC)
The Independent Schools Council (ISC) is a body that represents 1,280 independent schools in the UK and Ireland educating more than 500,000 children. The ISC exists to promote and preserve the quality, diversity and excellence of UK independent education both at home and abroad.
ISC provides a single, unified organisation that speaks and acts on behalf its member schools and the associations of governing bodies, heads and bursars by which it was constituted.
In co-operation with its eight constituent associations, the Council works to ensure that the values and interests of independent schools are fairly and accurately represented to Government and the Media, and in political and public debate.
ISC also takes responsibility for a variety of functions required equally by all member schools and associations, most notably inspection and the induction and recruitment of teaching staff.
